Stevedore knot

This knot is an analogue of the "eight". It is designed to create a thickening on the cable. According to some sources, the stevedoring knot was invented in ancient Britain, and according to others - in Portugal and Holland.

The name "Stevedore knot" first appeared in the explanatory dictionary of the English language in 1890. The compilers of the dictionary borrowed it from the manual on knitting knots, which was released by the cable company "Stevedore Ropes".

1. Put the running end on the root so that a loop is formed.

2. Twist the loop so that the lower part overlaps the upper one. You should get a figure in the form of an eight.

3. Turn the loop again in the same way.

4. Twist the loop a third time.

5. Pass the running end through the loop, and then pull it to secure the knot.
